Forsta Filters Case Study for Irrigation Application.

Irrigation Solutions by Forsta Filters

When irrigation systems are unprotected, dirt and debris collect in sprinkler nozzles and quickly disrupt spray patterns. Regardless of sprinkler head spacing, clogged nozzles can cause uneven coverage leading to brown patches and severe damage. Left unchecked, clogged nozzles become completely obstructed and must be replaced. This requires regular maintenance, which can be time consuming, disruptive and costly.

This is precisely what Marty Van Ells of Municipal Well and Pump was aiming to avoid by installing a filter in his irrigation project. Forsta self-cleaning irrigation filters provide insurance against costly landscape and turf damage, and prolong the life of sprinkler equipment. The automatic backwash cycle completely cleans the filter, eliminating the need for routine maintenance.

Van Ells, a project manager, had to solve the issue of irrigation heads sticking due to a large amount of sand in a pond water source. "Prior to getting the filter system straightened out the customer had about five heads a night sticking open due to debris in the system. Now it’s all filtered out." Van Ells said. “The filter works awesome!”
The pump station flows up to 900 gallons per minute, and provides water filtered down to 200 micron (70 mesh). “It looks like this is going to be a great success!” said Van Ells. “We’re going to be pushing [Forsta Filters] for other installations.”

The filter, installed at the pump discharge, utilizes line pressure to complete its point-of-suction backwash cycle. This unique approach to backwashing ensures that even while cleaning itself, filtered water continues to flow. This also eliminates the need for standby filters and elaborate valve schematics, frequently needed with other types of filters.

Forsta Filters is proud to help customers like Van Ells solve their filtration problems and eliminate future issues. Contact us today and let us know how we can help you with your filtration application.

Forsta Filters Appoints Director of Sales Polly Stenberg as Field Ambassador of the Water Stewardship Discount

Original equipment manufacturer Forsta Filters announced Friday that its new director of sales will work to encourage companies to take advantage of its Water Stewardship Discount (WSD). The discount, given on Forsta’s full line of self-cleaning water filters, is offered to companies and municipalities making improvements to their water use efficiency. Forsta’s offer has made headlines as cities, farms, greenhouses, factories and even golf courses address the question of responsible water use.

Forsta Vice Presdient Eran Fisher said of the discount, “Our announcement has come at a time when we as a people, worldwide, are revisiting the way we think about and use water. It is an exciting time for the implementation of more efficient and responsible water systems that will not only protect natural resources but also reduce costs.”

Stenberg brings a unique approach to Forsta as an alumnus of the University of Southern California with experience in the non-profit sector.
“I am excited to champion Forsta’s social mission on a global scale. Effective infrastructure relies on water more than we tend to realize. Of course we all need access to safe drinking water, but that’s just the very beginning. In the development of rural areas, and the modernization of our cities, clean water will be needed in increasing volumes to, irrigate crops, rinse food, cool industrial equipment etc. There is a high demand for non-drinkable, clean industrial water which is needed for common and important jobs.” This is where Stenberg sees Forsta self-cleaning screen filters playing a vital role.

“In many applications, water needs to be filtered from its original source, at least to some extent, in order to be effective. Once water has been used, there is also the considerable question of how to treat and/or reuse polluted wastewater in such a way as to ensure the health of people and the environment Increasingly, companies are setting water conservation targets, hiring conservation experts and implementing new systems.” It is Stenberg’s goal to encourage companies to take advantage of Forsta’s Water Stewardship Discount. “If as businesses we reward one another for responsible upgrades, we can all profit.”

The Water Stewardship Discount will target cooling tower companies in the coming months. “Cooling towers are everywhere, in every city, on every continent, and can potentially be wasting a great deal of water, energy and money on inefficient systems. I will continue discourse with cooling tower engineers and CEOs to inform them about how Forsta can help make their systems sustainable and efficient at a fraction of the cost. I am passionate about making change and am confident that business can lead the way.”

Forsta Filters Serves the City of Santa Maria

Forsta Filters is proud to provide another self-cleaning automatic irrigation filter. The application draws water from a well, and the B2-90 filter provides protection from sand and other debris in the water source before it reaches spray nozzles and drip emitters.

Designed to clean automatically, the controller monitors the pressure differential across the screen filter. At 7 psi differential, the controller opens the flush valve. This starts a brief point-of-suction backwash cycle, which cleans the entire screen without interrupting the main system flow through the filter.

The 90 Series filters are not only automatic, but offer a compact design that is easily installed into any water line. High quality stainless steel provides a very durable and long lasting material of construction.

Forsta’s Commitment to Sustainability

MATERIAL
Forsta specializes in the construction of stainless steel industrial filtration systems. As people become more aware of their impact on the natural environment, the use of stainless steel as a production material, is gaining greater value than previously recognized.
In mill production 70-85% of the unprocessed material comes from recycled sources. Recycled stainless steel or other alloy scrap comprises the fundamental components that will create raw material after melting in an electric furnace.
Given that stainless steel is 100% recyclable, after exceptionally long life-spans, stainless steel products can be returned to a mill and forged into new raw material. Likewise, all stainless steel scrap left on hand in the production of new stainless steel forms is collected for recycling from within the plant itself.
The longevity of stainless steel products contributes to resource minimization since new resources are not required as frequently to replace corroded or worn products. Stainless steel that is recycled in electric furnaces is of equal quality as the original.

WATER
Efforts to use water in a more sustainable manner have led to a focus on conservation and efficiency. Infrastructure upgrades are continually improving water efficiency across the industrial, municipal and agricultural sectors. These advancements include the optimization of cooling towers, recycling of sample water at cooling towers and implementation of closed loop water systems involving water reclamation and reuse systems. Forsta industrial water filters play an integral role in the performance of closed-loop systems by protecting equipment and ensuring uninterrupted flow.
Waste water treatment plants and pumping stations can connect (often through thousands of feet of reclaimed water pipes) to storage tanks, chillers, steam boilers and irrigation sites. Reclamation and reuse systems make highly treated or “reclaimed” wastewater available to meet a variety of non-drinking water needs thereby reducing strain on drinking water reservoirs and water treatment plants. Forsta self-cleaning water filters using the point of suction backwash technology provide the industry’s most efficient water filter.

POWER
Protecting pipes from scale buildup with Forsta industrial water filters prevents an increase in the energy required to pump system water. As pipe orifices become smaller, more energy is required to pump the same volume of water. Effects of flowing dirty water include excessive scale buildup, contaminants settlement, and clogged spray nozzles which all contribute to poor pump performance. Implementing Forsta self-cleaning water filters prevents these consequences and saves energy.
